Rice University Community
Involvement Center One-on-One Tutoring
One-on-One tutoring pairs Rice students with elementary school students for weekly tutoring and mentoring sessions at Pilgrim and Cunningham Elementary Schools. Sessions include playground time, one on one tutoring on English and Math skills in preparation for the TAKS, and character building. Students are recommended to this program for extra help by their classroom teachers. Tutors are asked to make a commitment to come every week so that the student being mentored will not feel left out and so that other tutors may continue to work one on one with their students. This is a very popular program because of the relatively low time commitment and the personal bonds forged between tutor and student. One-on-One Tutoring is also a lot of fun! The only requirement to be a tutor is a good attitude and enthusiasm for working with kids. Please e-mail Rachel Lattimore or Rosa Sandell for more information on the program. Tutoring,
