Robotics@Rice is a planning initiative to identify and pursue collaborative research and

educational opportunities for faculty, primarily in the School of Engineering, whose

research interests can be tied to the broad field of robotics.

Funded by a CITI ERIT planning grant, the group will meet throughout 2006 to complete the following tasks:

  • Define individual member research interests to inform the group of current activities
  • Discuss overlapping research interests that may initiate future collaborative efforts
  • Identify relevant conferences and, if appropriate, attend in small teams to facilitate discovery of research topics that are of mutual interest to group members
  • Identify relevant funding sources and initiatives and, if appropriate, begin formulating proposals
  • Determine if hosting prominent robotics researchers or representatives from funding agencies is worthwhile in pursuing collaborative research funding

The group’s $5,000 budget will be used to support these activities by:

·         Providing money for small group lunch meetings at which discussions will take place

·         Providing travel support to visit funding agencies or relevant conferences

·         Providing honorarium funds if seminar speaker(s) are to be invited to Rice University
