Short-Term International Visiting Research Students The following information is intended for visiting international students who are not pursuing a degree at Rice University, but are instead coming for a short visit to conduct research.
TRANSPORTATION TO RICE CAMPUS 1) Super Shuttle,Phone: (800) 258-3826
- Cost: ~$25.00.
- Set-up: Go to www.supershuttle.com to make a reservation.
- How it works: Take your confirmation receipt to the Super Shuttle counter in the baggage claim area of the airport, where the shuttle will be waiting for you. Super Shuttle will transport you the location you requested during your reservation.
b) Taxi
- Cost: ~ $40-$50 from Intercontinental Airport, or $25 from Hobby Airport. An additional charge may apply for heavy luggage such as trunks. There is no charge for a regular suitcase. Taxi drivers are customarily tipped about 15% of the fare.
- Set-up: Upon arrival go to the taxi pick-up area near baggage claim.
- How it works: Taxi will take you to your destination. Expect about 45 minute drive from Intercontinental to Rice area, or 25 minutes from Hobby Airport.

TRANSPORTATION AROUND HOUSTON Don’t have a car? You can still explore the city! Houston ’s light rail, conveniently located on Main Street next to Rice campus, offers an easy way to go beyond the hedges. Although buses can also take you where you want to go, always plan your route carefully, check online for time tables and build extra time into your schedule to anticipate potential delays.
