I graduated from Rice in 1969 with a B.A. in political science, and received a Ph.D. in political economy and government from Harvard University. I have been a member of the faculty of the Jones School at Rice University since 1977. My research interests focus on issues in environment of business (especially corporate social responsibility and business-government relations) and public financial management (especially federal budgetary process, fiscal impacts of land use development, and privatization of public services). My teaching assignments have included strategic management, environment of business, and public financial management. I have had extensive experience over the years in teaching executives (including strategy, ethics, business-government relations, team building, leadership, and group simulation exercises including computer supported business strategy games) and in working with business clients in strategy formulation and strategic planning. I have published five (5) books (one of which is in its second edition) and many scholarly papers.
