Q: How can Rice students enroll in one of the new Rice Neurosciences courses taught by Baylor faculty?
A: You will have to follow the next steps:
1. Check the list of available courses on this website and review the syllabi posted there.
2. Contact Professor Dannemiller at Rice, who is Director of Neurosciences and Prof. of Psychology, if you have questions.
3.Essential step: Contact Professor Mariella De Biasi, Ph.D., who is the Director of the Graduate Program in Neuroscience at Baylor, who will discuss your interest and background and indicate whether you will be accepted into the class.
4. If directed to do so by Prof. De Biasi, contact the instructor for the particular course you wish to take.
5. Continue to check this website for information about where and when the classes meet, about shuttle bus service, etc. Baylor
operates on a different academic calendar and a different weekly timetable from Rice

Q: Are these Baylor courses taught at Rice or at Baylor?
A: Some are taught at Rice, some at Baylor (just a 10 minute walk across Main and Fannin Streets from Rice), and some are mixed, e.g., with lectures at Rice and labs at Baylor. There is now a shuttle bus service connecting the two campuses (although many prefer to walk).

Q: Are these courses offered for credit?
A: Yes. The number of credits can vary, so check this website.

Q: Are these courses for graduate students or for undergraduates?
A: First off, these neuroscience courses are graduate courses. They are intended for students who are truly interested in neuroscience and who have the proper background. That said, many Rice undergraduates take these courses and do well in them. The best way to tell if you are a good candidate for them is to have a talk with Professor Sweatt at Baylor (see above). Note that Rice undergraduates taking these courses will be judged in the context of other undergraduates and not compared directly with graduate students.

Q: Is it possible to get involved in research with one of the Baylor instructors?
A: Yes, Baylor is interested in Rice undergraduate and graduate student involvement. For more information and details please contact Professor Mariella De Biasi, Ph.D. or any Baylor instructor if you want to learn more.
