Unanimously acclaimed and recognized for her piano playing, HYOJIN AHN has demonstrated an extraordinary ability to connect with audiences on a deeply personal level through a very exciting and appealing playing and an uncommonly mature technical command. Critics and teachers have described her as "an amazing talent, truly unique and surprising", and her playing as "extraordinarily artistic, vivid, colorful and compelling".

Hyojin AhnSome of the competitions she has won include the top prize of the Samick piano competition in Seoul, Korea, at age nine, the Youth Camber Music Competition at age fifteen, the World Newspaper piano competition a year later, and again the Samick piano competition in 1997. Throughout her academic career Ms. Ahn has been the recipient of numerous very prestigious scholarships and fellowships that include the Sun-Jai Scholarship in her native Korea, the Mary Ellen Hale Lovett Traveling Fellowship , the Sara Meredith Peterson Scholarship , and the Sallie Shepherd Perkins Prize for Best Achievement in Music , in the United States.

Ms. Ahn has attended some of the most prestigious universities in South Korea and the United States. She is currently a doctoral candidate in piano performance at the Shepherd School of Music of Rice University. She obtained her Bachelor Degree at Seoul National University in Seoul, Korea, and her Master's degree at the University of Michigan. Major teachers include Brian Connelly, Arthur Greene, and Phillip Bush. She has participated in Master Classes with Emanuel Ax, Anton Kuerti, John Perry, Shigeo Neriki, and Michael Gurt.

Besides being a frequent chamber player, Hyojin Ahn is a strong advocate of new music; she has premiered several new compositions for solo piano and a variety of ensembles, and has had many works dedicated to her as well. She was a member of Contemporary Directions Ensemble directed by Jonathan Shames and had the opportunity to collaborate with composers Karen Tanaka, Evan Chambers, and Susan Botti. She has also played for numerous concerts with the University of Michigan Band Orchestra, The Shepherd School Chamber Orchestra, and The Shepherd School of Symphony Orchestra.

In the summer of 2003 she attended the Summer Institute for Contemporary Piano Performance and worked with Stephen Drury, Yukiko Takagi, Shannon Wettstein, and Argentinean pianist Haydée Schvartz. Ms. Ahn has also attended lectures and informal talks with figures such as William Bolcom, Ursula Oppens, and Philip Glass. Hyojin Ahn has engagements for recitals in Italy, USA, Korea, and several cities throughout Mexico.
