PREPARATORY PROGRAM

Welcome to the web site for the Michael P. Hammond Preparatory Program, a division of the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University.

This program offers music classes for young children, ages two through nine, and non-credit private instruction in composition, theory, woodwinds, brass, harp, piano, voice, and strings for children from ages six through high school.

The advantages of music study through this program are many and include exposure to concerts, music theory, monthly recitals, chamber music experiences, and top-notch instruction.

All those involved in the program take great pride in this work, and great joy in bringing the love of music to young people.  It is our hope that the students who walk through our doors take with them a lifetime love for music, and will continue to enjoy playing and participating in musical activities for many years.

Sincerely,

Virginia Nance
Preparatory Program Director

Mission Statement
The purpose of the Preparatory Program is to provide an opportunity for serious students of music to have access to the type of instruction that will prepare them for a lifetime of musical enjoyment or for further study at the college level.  The goal of the program is to provide the best possible instruction to music students from preschool through high school.
