JAN DE CHAMBRIER, Artist Teacher of
Opera Studies, received her bachelorīs and masterīs degrees in
piano performance from Northwestern University, where she was also
the assistant to the director of opera. Appearing in the inaugural
concert of the Dame Myra Hess Concert Series at the Chicago Cultural
Center, she began an active free-lance career as a pianist and
coach-accompanist, serving on the musical staffs of the Lyric Opera
of Chicago, Chicago Opera Theater, Central City Opera, and Opera
Colorado.
De Chambrier has toured the United States extensively under the auspices of Affiliate
Artists and the Union Pacific Foundation and has made many radio and television
appearances. She has also concertized in Europe and worked with the late Tito
Gobbi at his opera workshop in Florence, Italy. In 1993, she had the privilege
of collaborating with soprano Renata Scotto in master classes for the Pittsburgh
Opera Center.
De Chambrier has been the official accompanist for the Metropolitan Opera and
San Francisco Opera Regional auditions and is the pianist for the annual Palm
Beach Opera Competition. Prior to joining the Shepherd School faculty she taught
Italian, French, and German diction and literature at Metropolitan State College
in Denver.
