WIRELESS NETWORK ACCESS

Rice is currently deploying a campus-wide wireless network that supports client access via 802.11(a, b, and g).  This installation will be complete well before the start of the Fall 2007 semester.  Currently, wireless connectivity is available throughout Alice Pratt Brown Hall and all of the residential colleges.  All wireless devices should support 802.11 b and 802.11g.

Several of the immediate benefits of wireless connectivity include portable access to e-mail and the Internet and greater flexibility for configuring classroom and performance technology.

Guests to the campus can easily obtain access to the Internet through the Rice Visitor wireless network.  Members of the Rice community can connect to Rice restricted resources through wired connections, by a secure 802.1x wireless configuration, or via the campus virtual private networking (VPN) system.  All computers accessing network connections other than those for visitors must verify that their computer has sufficiently secure and properly configured anti-virus software and regular operating system updates.
