Violinist MAUREEN NELSON appeared at the age of 16 with the Philadelphia Orchestra and has since performed with orchestras both in the United States and Europe, has been awarded top prizes in numerous competitions and was an NFAA/Arts awardee and Presidential Scholar finalist in the Arts.
Maureen has performed in music festivals around the world, including SummerFest La Jolla, Sarasota, Evian, Great Lakes, Schleswig-Holstein, St. Bart's and Pacific Music Festivals. She was concertmaster of the Detmolder Kammerorchester while studying in Germany. As a member of the Enso Quartet, Maureen has performed in England, Costa Rica and on concert series across the United States. In 2003 the quartet won top prizes in the Concert Artists Guild International Competition, the Fischoff National Competition and the Yellow Springs Chamber Music Competition.
Maureen was accepted into the Curtis Institute of Music when she was 16. She holds degrees from Yale University and the Curtis Institute of Music. Her major teachers include Jascha Brodsky, Shmuel Ashkenasi, Yumi Scott, Young Uck Kim and Sidney Harth. She has held a graduate residency at Northern Illinois University where she was mentored by the Vermeer String Quartet. She recently held a winter residency at the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme in Aldeburgh, England and is currently in residence at Rice University. |
