Music of Shostakovich, Wagner, Gottschalk, Tomasi, and Altenburg, featuring the trumpet sections of the Houston Symphony Orchestra and the Houston Grand Opera Orchestra performing with the Shepherd School Brass Choir. 8:00 p.m., Stude Concert Hall FRIDAY, MARCH 28 Guest Artist Master Class Adolph (Bud) Herseth, trumpet First of two master classes with the former principal trumpet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. 12:00-2:00 p.m., Stude Concert Hall SATURDAY, MARCH 29 Guest Artist Master Class Adolph (Bud) Herseth, trumpet Second of two master classes, including a presentation of Bud Herseth’s orchestral audio recordings with a powerpoint projection of trumpet parts. 2:00-4:00 p.m., Hirsch Orchestra Rehearsal Hall Retired after fifty-five seasons as principal trumpet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Bud Herseth is widely admired for his virtuosity and musicality. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest orchestral trumpeters of his generation.  For decades, he passed on the keys to technical mastery and his love for orchestral music to students through his work with the CSO's Civic Orchestra, a training orchestra for young players. He was a student of Boston Symphony Orchestra trumpeters Marcel LaFosse (second trumpet) and Georges Mager (principal trumpet) at the New England Conservatory of Music.
