Dr.
Yu-Chieh Chiu completed his B.S. in National Taiwan
University of Science and Technology in Taiwan
(2003), his M.S. in chemical engineering at Illinois
Institute of Technology (2007), and Ph.D. in
biomedical engineering at Illinois Institute of
Technology (2011). In 2012, Dr. Chiu joined Dr.
Mikos' research group in the Department of
Bioengineering at Rice University as a postdoctoral
research associate.
Dr. Chiu
was mentored by Dr. Eric M. Brey (Department of
Biomedical Engineering, Illinois institute of
Technology), and focused on following two areas as
described in detail below: 1) novel techniques for
the generation of poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG)-based
hydrogels, and 2) optimization of cell-substrate
interactions for stimulating neovascularization.
His
research activities have resulted in 8 peer-reviewed
publications (5 as first author). His current
research focuses on developing scaffolds for
spatially directed growth factor delivery and
