Ville  Meretoja, Ph.D.

Ville Meretoja started his postdoctoral research in Professor Mikos’ laboratory in May 2009. He received his M.Sc. in Biotechnology from University of Turku, Finland (1999) with an emphasis on recombinant protein production. His research career continued in the Department of Biochemistry and Food chemistry (1999-2000) and later in the Institute of Dentistry (2000-2009), University of Turku, where he completed his Ph.D. on bioactive macroporous scaffolds for bone engineering in 2008. In addition, Meretoja has acted as a part time consultant to Vivoxid Ltd, Finland since 2007. His previous international contacts include two research visits to the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Center, the Netherlands and one visit to the Tokyo Women's Medical University, Japan. Meretoja’s current research focuses on cartilage engineering with electrospun poly(caprolactone) and extracellular matrix composite scaffolds using flow perfusion bioreactors.
