Approval of Courses for Transfer to Rice

Approvals should be obtained from the department that offers the course, not from the Director of the Managerial Studies Program. Once the transferred course appears on the student's Rice University transcript, it will be applied to the major. It is recommended that students obtain approvals in writing prior to taking the course at the other university. Students transferring credit from other universities in lieu of Econ 211 must pass a qualifying examination administered by the Department of Economics.

Jones School Policy on ACCO 305

Acco 305/Busi 305 may be taken by Rice students that have earned at least 24 credit hours. Credit for the course may be granted to students that have taken an equivalent course elsewhere. The ultimate decision on whether to grant such credit rests with the Dean of the Jones Graduate School of Management. However, following the guidelines below, Rice University's Office of the Registrar may make the decision on whether to grant credit, and if in doubt, the Registrar shall contact Rick Schell, Director of Undergraduate Business Minor Program.

Credit for ACCO 305/Busi 305 shall be granted to students having taken a course at an institution other than Rice University if the following four conditions are satisfied:

1. The course must have been taken at an AACSB-accredited business school or at a U.S. four-year college or university that is regionally accredited. Aside from exceptional cases, credit shall not be granted for courses taken at non-U.S. institutions.

2. The grade earned was at least a B.3. The course must have been titled as accouting and have dealt primarily with financial accounting.

4. The course must have been taken within five (5) years of applying for the transfer of credit.
