The Rice placement test is a requirement if you have
taken the AP or IB tests, but you will be able to receive credits for language courses. Please go to the Registrar’s
website to find out the details. Online Testing Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese,
Spanish (Above test
link was deactivated on 6/19/09) To
help ensure that you receive timely results, we strongly urge you to take the
test before arriving at Rice. For the above seven languages, it is possible for you
to take the test online beginning May 26, 2009. In order to take the online
test, you will need your student ID number, which was provided to you on your acceptance letter.
**The O'week schedule has a special time slot for the on-line Language Placement Tests; Monday August 17th from 8:30 AM- 10:30 AM, Language Resource Center, Rayzor Hall. We encourage students who have not yet taken the test to come to the Language Resource Center to take the test on that day.** Tests taken during O'Week will be graded on the following schedule: - Tests taken by Monday August 17th, 5:00 PM will be graded by Wednesday 8/19, 5:00 PM ** If you intend this Fall to take a language of which you have some knowledge, you must take the test by Monday, August 17, 5:00 PM so that the results can guide your registration on Friday 8/21. It is in your interest to be assigned the appropriate level of your language proficiency. During O-Week you can take the online
tests in the Monday, 8/17 - Friday, 8/21 If you plan to register for a language
course for the spring semester, you can take the online tests until Friday,
September 11th, Online Language Placement Tests available only once per
academic year
Students will receive an
e-mail notifying them that the results of their test are available on the
test webpage . Arabic For Arabic, a written version of the test
will be available for you to take during O-Week. Students taking the test in
Arabic will meet in the following classroom on Monday, August 17,
Greek, Hebrew, Hindi , Korean, Latin, Russian For Information about placement for these
