How to set languages in Word 2000
If you are editing a document you have already
prepared:
-
Word 2000 should recognize the language of your document automatically.
If it doesn't, don't panic. This is relatively easy to fix.
-
First, Highlight the entire document.
-
Then, go to the "Tools" menu. One of two things will happen.
Either, you will see an option titled "Language," or you won't.
If you don't see the option, "Language," you need to go to the
bottom of the "Tools" menu and hold the cursor over the small
double arrow at the bottom of the menu. This will then display
all of the options including "Language." Select "Language."
-
From the "Language" menu, select "Set Language."
-
You can then chose the language your paper is written in.
If Word has a spellchecker and grammar checker for the language
your paper is in, it will have a little check mark with the
letters "ABC" next to the language choice. The current languages
supported by the spellchecker are: English, French, German,
Italian, and Spanish.
-
Note: By following these instructions you can also change
the language for only part of your document. This is handy if
you are typing a paper in English and want to include a quote
in a different language. Follow the steps above, but only highlight
the part of the paper that is in a different language.
If you are starting a new document:
-
Before you do any typing you want to chose the language so
that it applies to the entire document.
-
To do so follow the steps listed above but without highlighting
anything. As long as you haven't typed anything this will work.
-
If you have already typed something simply follow the steps
above to set the language.
