How to Digitize and Stream
If you want to digitize, the procedure will slightly vary in the
case of audio files (either tapes or CD) or video files (either
video or DVD).
For precise instructions in each case, select your option:
1) Audio with tapes (using
Audioactive recorder on PC 1 or 2)
2) Audio with CD's (using
Audioactive recorder on PC 1 or 2)
3) Video with tapes (using
Amber or MovieMaker Plus on PC 1)
4) Video with DVD's (using
Amber program on PC 1)

Next, if you want to stream, the procedure will be very similar
in each case.

1) Audio with tapes
Ok, so you want to digitize a tape to a file right? Here are the
steps:

First, check if the omni-cube 4-ports is on (the computers
should always be on). |

Press the "SELECT" button on the switch-board until "1" or
"2" is highlighted. |

Verify that the power on the tape deck is on. Note that for
some decks, the power switch is on the back. |
| * |
Double-click the Audioactive recorder icon on the desktop
(black and yellow). |
| * |
Write down the filename followed by ".mp3" in the box for
that effect. |
| * |
Press the "PLAY" button on the tape deck and directly afterwards
click the "Record to file" button on the screen. |
| * |
Select the number of seconds it lasts (in the options) or
keep checking the screen (approximate the length), until it's
over. |

Press the stop button on the tape deck and the close button
on the screen. |
2) Audio with CD's
Ok, so you want to digitize a CD to a file right? Here are the
steps:

First, check if the omni-cube 4-ports is on (the computers
should always be on). |

"2" is highlighted. |

Verify that the power on the CD deck is on. Note that for
some decks, the power switch is on the back. |

3) Video with tapes
Ok, so you want to digitize a video to a file right? Here are
the steps:
AMERICAN VIDEOS ON PC 1

First, check if the omni-cube 4-ports is on (the computers
should always be on). |

Press the "SELECT" button on the switch-board until "1" is
highlighted. |

Verify that the power on the Top VCR is on. If you're doing
a foreign format video, scroll down for specific instructions. |

Double-click the Amber icon on the desktop. |
| * |
Click the file icon. Write down the filename followed by ".mpg"
in the box for that effect. |

Be sure to save in the correct folder on the correct drives. |
| * |
You can click the option button to select a precise time length
to record, or just come back and stop it yourself, when finished. |

Press the "PLAY" button on the VCR and directly afterwards
click the "Record" button on the screen (red circle). |
FOREIGN FORMAT VIDEOS (OR AMERICAN) ON PC 2

First, check if the omni-cube 4-ports is on (the computers
should always be on). |

Press the "SELECT" button on the switch-board until "2" is
highlighted. |

Verify that the power on the video deck is on. |
| * |
Under the start menu, click on "Find" and "Files or folders". |
| * |
In the search box, type "Encoder" & make sure the drive
is on "C:". |
| * |
After MPEG Encoder appears, double-click to run the program. |
| * |
MovieMaker Plus will open as a control panel on the screen. |
| * |
Turn on the TV screen on the right to monitor your progress. |
| * |
On the control panel, click on "View" & go down to properties. |
| * |
This is very important: Verify settings (to go to settings,
click here). |
| * |
Close window when proper settings are in place. |
| * |
Click on folder icondirectly to the right of the Text Box
& name file in appropriate form with ".mpg"at the end. |

Click on red circle (record) button to begin recording. |
4) Video with DVD's
Ok, so you want to digitize a DVD to a file right? Here are the
steps:

First, check if the omni-cube 4-ports is on (the computers
should always be on). |

Press the "SELECT" button on the switch-board until "1" is
highlighted. |

Verify that the power on the DVD deck is on. If you're doing
a foreign format video, follow the instructions, but use the
multi-format Pioneer DVD player. |

Double-click the Amber icon on the desktop. |
| * |
Click the file icon. Write down the filename followed by ".mpg"
in the box for that effect. |

You can click the option button to select a precise time length
to record, or just come back and stop it yourself, when finished. |

Press the "PLAY" button on the DVD deck and directly afterwards
click the "Record to file" button on the screen. |
Audio settings:
Audio settings are on Audioactive equipment.
Just make sure you add ".mp3" at the end of the file name you have
chozen.

* NTSC: Note that this should be "PAL" if the VCR being used is not
converting the film to NTSC, or if the VCR is set for PAL output.
** Target/Video/Audio: After you change to theses values, the program
will adjust to read:
Target= 1.968
Video= 1.4904
Audio= 384
Streaming
So you want to stream eh?
Caution! Do not leave the computer without attendance: always log
out before leaving! If you forget to do so, anyone could come and
willingly or accidently erase all of our files! You have to keep
in mind that in the streaming process, you are not longer working
on the hardrive of the computer you are using but on one of our
specific-function-computer. So if you need to look for anything
on the computer you're using, first close the streaming program.
A) Audio Streaming:
If you’re going to stream audio files, here’s what
you need to do:
1. Chooze either the staff computer nearest to the door or one
of the PC's in Eric's office.
2. From the Start menu, click programs and open up "PCA to Encoder".
3. Domain is languages.
4. Go to the Start menu from the other computer (it looks the same,
it's just not your desktop, its actually the desktop from the computer
in Eric’s office) and open up Real Producer.
5. Go to File and click New Session
6. On the Input Side, go to Browse, and find the audio file with
".mp3" format that you want to stream.
7. On the Output side, go to Save As and give the file some sort
of logical name and click Ok.
8. Find the Clip Information for the file (from original) and enter
it into the fields provided.
Click Start.
B) Video streaming:
If you’re going to stream video files, here’s what
you need to do:
1. Chooze either the staff computer nearest to the door or one
