The third in the series of State of the Arc (SOTA) conferences is aimed at understanding physical-chemical processes operating at subduction zones. This conference will have as its theme, Energy and Mass Fluxes in Volcanic Arcs. The meeting will be held 16-21 August 2003 at Timberline Lodge (Mt. Hood), conveniently located near Portland, Oregon.
Mission Statement
Our goal is to bring together a group of international researchers whose work bears on the conference theme. Specific focus areas will include:
Contributors to the conference will include a number of invited keynote speakers and/or moderators whose task is to summarize recent and cutting edge research bearing on the aforementioned focus areas. Other participants will have an opportunity to present relevant research results, primarily in poster format. The structure of the conference will revolve around extended and focused discussion of the above topics and the relation between geodynamic processes and arc volcanism. Because of the size of the venue and the desire to keep the meeting "conversational"?, participation will be limited and by invitation, determined on the basis of applications with a statement of research interests and probable individual contributions.
