Hilda Rich Circle of Giving
Overview
Leadership Rice endeavors to develop civic-minded leaders for whom the practice of leadership is more than an exercise in personal fulfillment. The Hilda Rich Circle of Giving fund affords students opportunities to participate in philanthropic giving beyond their own means. Students may apply to direct funds to charitable organizations they already support in some way.
Background
Hilda Rich and her husband, Hershel, are exemplars par excellence of the spirit and practice of philanthropy. Having achieved personal success, the Riches consider it an honor and privilege to share their work, wisdom, and wealth with the community. In 2002 they were awarded the Rice University Gold Medal Award for their commitment to the university and the community. In recognition of Hilda's abiding commitment to community work, her family and friends honored her in 2004 by creating the Hilda Rich Circle of Giving Award, which allows students to follow Hilda's example in contributing financially to organizations of importance to them.
