Welcome to my website. The information included here reflects my professional life as a performer and teacher. Highlighted as well are the activities of my flute studio and accomplishments of former students.
If you are interested in the Shepherd School you will want to click on Flute Studio, and also on Advice/Inspiration, which discusses topics of special interest, including what I look for in a prospective student. To hear samples from my recent releases Dedicated to Barrere and Dedicated to Barrere, Vol. 2, featuring music written for the great Franco-American flutist Georges Barrere, click on Listen.
My latest recording, American Vistas with soprano Mimmi Fulmer, has just been released by Albany Records. This disc features works for voice and flute by Martin Amlin, Braxton Blake, Maura Bosch, Aaron Copland, John Corigliano, Henry Cowell, Kenneth Gaburo, Scott Gendel, Ralph Shapey, and my Shepherd School faculty colleague Kurt Stallman, whose Lumina II for solo flute is one of the seven premiere recordings on this CD. Additional collaborators on this disc are clarinetist Michael Webster and composer/pianists Amlin and Gendel.
From May through August I'll be teaching and playing in Australia and Zealand; at the Sarasota Music Festival and Clarinetopia (SUNY Stoney Brook); as coach for the Youth Orchestra of the Americas at the New England Conservatory in Boston; in Porto, Portugal at the International Clarinet Society's ClarinetFest; and at the National Flute Association's convention in New York City. Due to unexpected circumstances, Christina Jennings and I have cancelled this year's Panoramic Flutist, but have very exciting plans for next year's seminar. Stay tuned!
