The Young Learners School provides for one teacher, to be shared between two classrooms, who at a minimum has acquired a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in early childhood or a similar field, or has an unrelated degree but is working towards Alternative Certification in Pre-Kindergarten through fourth grade. Students are dually enrolled in HISD and JCHH. Young Learners will refer students for language proficiency testing when indicated on the home language survey and will provide bilingual services for students who qualify. Young Learners invite JCHH staff to participate in staff development and in-service. Planning and implementing the daily program for students will be in accordance with TEA Pre-kindergarten Guidelines, HISD Project Clear, and Developmentally Appropriate Practices in Early Childhood programs, and NAEYC Accreditation Standards.
