New Business
- Spring Fling this SATURDAY, April 5th! Sign up with dgregory@rice.edu for
an hour at the KMC booth. Playing with kids is fun!
- Texas Rock Gym! Thursday, April 10th at 7-10pm. Only $5 and a lot of fun.
- Car Wash on Friday, April 11th at 4-6pm! Come by for an hour and help out!
(Last car wash we made $75 in an hour and a half!)
- Roberta Anding will be giving a talk on supplements and ergogenic aids.
The date and place is TBA, but it will be in April.
- We are collecting club member dues. Only $5 and you get a cool t-shirt!
- We have bulletin board space at the Recreation Center by the check-in
desk.
- We now have club storage space in the RMC basement.
Events
- We are starting a Newsletter! The first issue is due in late March.

- We are having two car washes: March 21st and April 11th. It's a
Friday and from 4 to 6pm- just two hours! Mark your calendars!
- On Thursday, April 10th, the KMC will be going to the Texas Rock Gym
from 7-10pm for $5!! There will be instructional session as well as rock
climbing! Come out!
- Walk for Health - We would like to have a club sponsored walk around Rice
campus. This walk will promote fitness education and healthy lifestyles.

- Club Business:
Jessica is collecting dues! Pay $5 and receive KMC
perks immediately! Free club T-shirt with dues!
We have office space!
The club now has storage in the RMC.
We will have use of the bulletin
board in Autry court in the entrance lobby.
We are looking to get
bulletin board space in the RMC near the bookstore.
- Speaker:
KMC will be sponsoring a great speaker this fall. Lisa
Symeonidis will be giving a talk on "Eating Healthy On Campus At Rice." The
date is TBA, but will be very soon!! (listserv mentioned Nov. 14th but this
is not confirmed).
We are going to have the opportunity to sponsor a
"Q&A Forum with Dr. Gibson." He will answer questions on exercises and
strategies for athletic improvement. All Rice people will be welcome, the
date is TBA.
- Student Opportunities:
The Recreation Center is looking for students
to hire. If you are interested in writing exercise prescriptions and in
exercise testing, you should look into this. Rec Center will provide
training (a few weeks) and this is for Spring '03! CONTACT: Makyba Lyons at

the Children's Nutritional Research Center, Baylor College of Medicine! Can

- Work 10-20 hours per week.
- Collect and record dietary and physical activity data during the
baseline and post intervention data collection with 11-14 year old
research subjects.
- Attend and pass training on research
- Assist in implementing physical activity intervention with The Boy
Scouts

- KMC Volunteerism:
KMC will participate in Clothing Drive in
conjunction with the Recreation Center. This will begin soon, and every
member is asked to bring at least one piece of clothing. More details soon.
We want to start a consistent volunteer group for our club. We intend to
look for opportunities for students to volunteer on the weekends, or other
events that do not require a large commitment. If you are interested in
heading/organizing this group for KMC let me know! (dgregory@rice.edu)
KMC wants to sponsor an AWARENESS WALK. We are considering the issue of
childhood obesity - to increase awareness that children need to engage in
physical activity. If this interests you, and you would like to help create
this event contact Jessica Schumer (jschumer@rice.edu).
Want To Train
for A Marathon?
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will train you for a or
Full Marathon! Team in Training will give fundraising tips, have meetings to
track progress, and provide accommodations for one of the three events that
you chose for Spring '03. There is a commitment to raise a large sum of
money.

Run for a Reason/Walk for a Dream: "I Have A Dream Organization" will
train you for a 4 mile, or full marathon. There is a commitment to raise at

KMC will be posting a Calendar of Events for
Professional Organizations! This will include conferences and memberships to
all kinds of organizations that want student involvement. Look for this in
the Spring!
If you know any students, club, organizations that would be
interested in receiving this kind of information let me know!

time so that everyone can try to fit them into their schedule.
