for First-Year Undergraduate Students
Who Entered Rice in Fall 1998

Rice graduating seniors
have by far the lowest debt burden of seniors at any highly selective
college or university in the United States. In fall 1998, Rice
moved to reduce that debt burden even more by capping its need-based
loan awards for incoming freshmen at $2,400 per year. The difference
in need is made up in correspondingly greater grant awards.
