The Faculty
Council and the University
Council advise the president on policy matters affecting
the faculty and the operation of the university. The University
Council reviews and makes recommendations about changes in curriculum
and degree requirements and approves the academic calendar before
those issues are brought to the faculty for decision. Eight
members of the Faculty Council serve on the University Council
with the president, as chair, who appoints three members (currently
the provost and two faculty members). Other University Council
members include one staff member, two undergraduate students,
and one graduate student. (The Faculty Council is composed of
16 members: eight of whom also serve on the Committee on Appeals
and Grievances, while the other eight serve on University Council.)
