THE
TEXAS MEDICAL CENTER

| Across Main Street
from campus is the Texas Medical
Center, the largest concentration of healthcare facilities
in the world. Texas Medical Center has over 40 member institutions,
including two medical schools, four schools of nursing, 13 hospitals,
and other medical facilities which are not-for-profit. There
are more than 16,000 students enrolled and more than 60,000
employees on the 700-acre center. More than 5 million patients
visit the Medical Center annually. |

HERMANN
PARK
|

On the eastern
of the Rice campus is Hermann
Park, Houston's first public park. In addition to
picnic areas, a reflecting pool, a miniature train, and a
golf course, the park includes the
Houston Zoo, Japanese Gardens, Miller Outdoor
Theater, Carruth Playground for All Children, and
Houston Garden Center.

| Immediately northeast
of the Rice campus is Houston's Museum District, which includes
the Museum of Fine Arts,
the Contemporary Arts Museum,

Center, the

RESIDENTIAL
NEIGHBORHOODS AND THE VILLAGE

| Rice University
lies in the center of University Place, a collections of established
civic clubs that form one large neighborhood. Rice and University
Place are flanked by the city of West University Place,
which acts as an individual entity within the city of Houston,
and the Village. The Village, just west of the campus,
is an eclectic mix of 370 stores and 70 restaurants within easy
walking distance of campus. |
