INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH
The Office of Institutional Research (OIR) serves
Rice University by providing information and sound research about
its students, faculty, staff, and programs in order to enhance decision
making, problem-solving, strategic planning, policy review, and
institutional assessment.
PURPOSE
|
The OIR was established in 1994 to fill a need--that of being
an official source of information to Rice about itself. To achieve
this purpose, we spend a significant amount of time conducting
detailed analysis and research about issues, policies, and other
items of interest and need for the University. We conduct both
Rice specific and peer institution comparative analysis and
research, which are then issued to the executives on campus.
Furthermore, we provide facts and figures to the Rice community
through our publications, both electronic and hard copy, respond
to information requests, and coordinate the standard annual
reporting to Federal and state agencies.
In the past year, we completed over 20 major survey and research
projects for Rice. In addition, we researched around 200 topics
for data during the year. Our operations are institution-wide,
and we work with the schools, campus committees and associations,
and the administration. We offer our assistance and resources
to the full Rice community, both internally and externally,
through collaborative activities with our colleagues and through
leadership roles in our various professional associations.
