Investigation Abstract of the Honor Council
Case #21, Spring 2005
April 25, 2005
Members Present:
John Horstman (presiding), Andrew Koller (investigator), Tina Chen, Simon Doyle
Ombuds:
Brandon Wagner
Letter of Accusation:
The Honor Council received a letter of accusation for a lower level social science course concerning the removal of a test from an unproctored scheduled exam. The missing exam was taken out under a pseudonym. Two students were registered for the course but failed to turn in the exam. These two students were implicated as possible actors in taking the exam, under many possible scenarios.
Evidence Submitted:
Investigation:
The two students in question denied having any knowledge of the missing test. Both students stated that they did not take the test because they had decided to drop the course. Student A argued that he had other exams that he was taking at this time, which would make it impossible for him to have taken the exam. Student B stated that he may have had practice or an IM game at the time of the exam. The Council felt that a second investigation was needed to gather evidence corroborating the stories.
Additional Evidence:
Second Investigation:
Student A stated that he had a review session that he attended during the time in question and therefore could not have taken the test. Student B gave a detailed description of his events on the night in question. The Council felt that there was a lack of evidence to suggest that either of the accused students was the person who took the exam and unanimously voted to drop the case.
Respectfully Submitted,
John Horstman
