Abstract of the Honor Council
Case 25, Spring 2003
November 11, 2004
Members Present:
Chris Edwards (presiding), Elspeth Simpson (investigator), Jon Jackson, Amy Pollard, John Horstman (obs. investigator)
Ombuds:
Brandon Wagner (Peter Choo observing)
Letter of Accusation:
The Honor Council received a letter of accusation from a professor in a mid-level business course. The letter accused Students A, B, and C of colluding on a take-home exam, which is a violation of the course Honor Code policy.
Evidence Submitted:
- Letter of Accusation
- Accuser’s exam
- Deposition of accuser
- Deposition of additional student relevant to accusation
- Deposition of professor
- Additional exams from a college test bank
- Additional exam from accuser
- Additional exam from accused
Investigation:
Student A denied the accusation entirely. The Council was also not in possession of the assignment in question, and would therefore be unable to compare the accuser’s and accused’s exam. The Council determined that a second investigative meeting was necessary to ensure that the assignment in question could be obtained. When the exam was requested from the accused student, he was unable to produce the document.
In light of the above line of reasoning, the Investigative Committee voted 3 - 0 to dismiss the case.
Respectfully Submitted,
Chris Edwards
