Mission Statement
nThe goals of this organization shall be as follows:
nTo organize international efforts to improve the healthcare and medical treatment in needy communities. nTo work as partners with grass-roots, student, and community groups worldwide in an exchange of knowledge and resources with the common goal of improving healthcare. nTo facilitate the long-term improvement of international healthcare through educational outreach, emphasizing important issues affecting the health and well being of individuals in the communities we serve. nTo increase the accessibility of the international travel experience to the Rice community through missions that serve the humanitarian purposes of the organization.
Humanitarian Medical Outreach was created with two main purposes: to help other students have the kind of international experience I had, and specifically to work on the Kabula Clinic Project. The overall goals of HMO, as laid out in our mission statement, are broader. This is an organization that will exist, hopefully, long after the Kabula Clinic Project is completed, one that will seek out and develop new humanitarian projects for the next two-and-a-half years that I am at Rice, and beyond.
