uGo to schools, churches and communities around
Kenya and lecture about AIDS and its prevention.
Doctors report
an HIV prevalence rate of 30-35% in the Bungoma District of Kenya. They also
estimate that 70% of afflictions that people seek treatment for at hospitals
are HIV related. Stopping the spread of HIV in rural Africa requires a change
in behavior. Right now, dangerous misconceptions about the transmission of
HIV, and possible cures for AIDS, are helping the disease to spread rapidly.
Cultural practices such as wife inheritance also contribute to the problem.
The first step in curbing the spread of this deadly disease is education.
