ranges from 6-6 to 11-5 in various areas.

Line Sets
Hamman Hall does not have a fly system.
There are three dedicated electric battens on a motorized winch
system. Scenery cannot be hung from
these battens.
All other battens are dead hung from ceiling trusses and
are dedicated to electrics or stage draperies.
Scenery could possibly be hung from these battens depending on the
weight and size of the scenery. This
would only be permitted after being discussed with the Technical Director.
Our battens and electrics are accessible by use of an
aerial work platform/personnel lift. It
is a JLG, model no. 20EL-AC, electric powered only, has a maximum height of
20-0 and maximum capacity of 350 lbs.
Only Hamman Hall employees may use the lift.
Support Areas
Crossover: There is
a crossover bridge along the back wall of the stage behind the scrim, cyc &
upstage travelers. The bridge is a
2-6 wide by 32-0 long platform that is 3-0 above the stage level. The ground row instruments for the cyc are
below the bridge.
Stage Access: The
loading dock doors are in the rear wall of the stage on the SR side. When the doors are fully opened, there is a
5-8 wide x 6-6 tall opening. There
is a minimal (4-0 x 9-6) concrete loading platform just outside of the
doors on the exterior wall of the building.
The platform is 4-3 above the street level and accessible by a set of
4-0 wide stairs. There is a small,
enclosed parking area on the backside of the building. There is room for 1-2 vans or a small U-Haul
style truck for unloading. Once
unloaded all vehicles must be moved to visitor parking.
Storage: Storage is
limited to the minimal wing spaces.
There are no alternate storage areas in Hamman Hall.
Dressing Rooms
There is a dressing room on each side of the stage. A spiral staircase in each wing space
accesses the dressing rooms.
Each dressing room can comfortably handle 10 people. Each has lighted makeup tables, mirrors, a
restroom, two sinks and costume racks.
There are no intercom capabilities to the dressing rooms.
There is a 30-0 x 30-0 rehearsal room in the basement
of Hamman Hall. It can be used, for an
extra rental fee, as additional dressing/meeting room space. The rehearsal room is used as a classroom;
therefore it is not available at all times.
LIGHTING EQUIPMENT

Dell Pentium III laptop computer with Windows ME.
Information about Roscos Horizon can be accessed thru
their website: http://www.rosco.com/main.html (go to the Products, then
Dimming & Control links). You can
download the Horizon software for free from their website for programming ques
ahead of time.

views and ground plan are available for a fee.
The house plot paperwork is available in Lightwright 3
format and can also be emailed. There
is a magic sheet available as well which can be emailed as a Word document.
Dimmers

in the SR wing space (yes, they do make it a bit noisy backstage but theyve
been there for 15 years and are permanent).
Houselights

right and in the control booth.
Dance Booms
Dance booms (6 13 tall) are available by request for
side lighting. There is a set up and
take down charge involved.

SOUND EQUIPMENT
Live mixing of musical performers (singers & musicians)
in the space cannot be done solely with Hamman Halls sound equipment. The mixer is permanently installed in the
control booth. While there are monitors
in the control booth, there is also an air intake vent for the buildings
ventilation system in the booth. The vent
creates a fair amount of additional noise in the booth. All microphone levels must be set during a
rehearsal or sound check before the performance.
Hamman Hall does not have the capacity, or the equipment to
provide monitors for live musicians.
There are two stage monitors located approximately 10 ft. above the
stage, one behind each side of the proscenium opening. They really are only successful as monitors
for dancers during a dance performance.
The system will have feedback problems when multiple live microphones
are used upstage of the proscenium opening.
There are two Shure Easyflex Overhead Microphones for our monitoring
system; they are permanently mounting in the ceiling, above the stage near the
proscenium opening.
The most successful productions involving live musicians in
Hamman Hall have been achieved by bringing in professional audio production
companies from outside of Rice University.
If you are interested, the Technical Director can recommend a few
companies that have worked in Hamman Hall in the past.
