mangalwaar ka lekh: An essay on any topic of your choice, unless otherwise specified, is due every Tuesday.

Most weeks you will find additional assignments to be covered over the entire week posted on this page. "#" refers to the section in the grammar reference book.

week 5: Sept 25-27.

  1. Familiarize yourself with the entire vocabulary of Text 1.
  2. Read, understand and learn personal pronouns and simple present and simple past tense of the verb honaa [You may also refer to Snell #1.1 pg 21 and #4.1 pg. 51. (Ignore the sentences given as examples in this section.)]
  3. For Tuesday, Sep 25:
  4. Go over the song meraa jootaa hai jaapaanii. Go over the lyrics, vocabulary, unscrambled lyrics and sing along sections on the site.
  5. For Wednesday Sep. 26: do the exercises listed in the song meraa jootaa hai jaapaanii.
  6. For Thursday Sep. 27::
  7. Interrogatives continued, Snell #1.2 pg 22 and #2.1 pg 30.
  8. Text 2: Read Text 2 from the file text four to five times with minimal reference to the transliteration in the text.
  9. Familiarize yourself with the vocabulary in Text 2.
  10. Terms of relationships, Snell Appendix 4, pg. 255
  11. Nouns, Snell #1.3, pg 23-24
  12. Adjectives, Snell #1.4, pg 24-25; #2.2 pg 31; #2.4 pg 34

  16. Tuesday writing due Oct 2: Write a lekh using as many professions and nationalities as possible.

  7. Review class notes on yahaa~, vahaa~, kahaa~, jahaa~.
  8. Tuesday writing due Sep 25.

  7. Learn numbers 0-13, Snell Apendix 1 pg. 251.
  8. Tuesday writing due Sept 18: Write a simple conversation between two or more people. Use a variety of greeting forms and ways to address eachother.
