Estrella's Test of Tonal Ability, from
by Steven G. Estrella. Dr. Estrella teaches at Temple University, and has a number of informative and entertaining pages there.

Teoria Musical - Music Theory
a Prtugese site, also in English, with rudimentary but valuable ear-training exercises, easy to use and with no keyboard required, involving intervals, chords, cadence types, and scales. The scale area is a bit "iffy", but limited to just four scale types anyway.



SHEET MUSIC ONLINE

Sheet Music Online offers many listening drills (here's an example) for PC and Mac platforms in a PDF (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader) format, which are free to all music educators. They also offer many files of public domain music, ready to use.

KBA (Knowledge Building Activity) Software

Dr. Gilbert Trythall has developed a number of packages for KBA Software of Morgantown, WV (above), concerning ear-training and music theory. You may download demo versions of this software for Windows 95 at this site.

EARMASTER

Earmaster and Earmaster School are Windows and NT programs, respectively, effective for student needs from beginners to advanced. You are invited to evaluate these programs at this site.

Martin Grusin
"Professional Sightsinging Techniques"

It may be worthwhile to check out some of the techniques used by our friends in the commercial music world. Martin Grusin has developed a successful training program aimed primarily at students of popular voice. This site demonstrates some of these tricks of the trade and offers some insight into how less academically trained singers approach problems which are, after all, universal to musicians, regardless of style.
