$3,000 for summer study in France
The Leonardon-Magne Scholarship Program
Since its inception in 1958, the Leonardon-Magne Scholarship program has awarded scholarships to young university students presented by the five Houston universities (Rice, UH, St Thomas, TSU, and Houston Baptist). The founders of the scholarship stated, "In the selection from the academically and otherwise eligible candidates, consideration is given not only to young people interest(ed) in French language and culture, their scholarly merit and particularly to their ability to communicate in that language, but also to their personality as prospective representatives of the U.S. abroad, the probability of their bringing back to their classmates the extent to which their proposed careers will be furthered."
Today, the object of the scholarship is still to give a student an educational opportunity during his/her formative years, hoping they will influence other young people and inspire them to make the French culture and language part of their lives and careers.
Students who wish to apply can download the application and turn the completed application in at the department office, Rayzor Hall 207, no later than noon on Monday, January 29.
Departmental interviews IN FRENCH will be held on Wednesday, January 31 from 3:00-5:00 PM. Three final candidates will be selected who will be interviewed at the Alliance Française on Saturday, February 10 at 10:00 AM.
