Faculty Council Business Meeting

27 February 2001, 12 Noon, Card Room, Cohen House

Present: Bob Patten, speaker, and Ed Akin, John Ambler, Yildiz Bayazitoglu, Stephen Baker, Janet Braam, Ed Cox, Bala Dharan, Barbara Ostdiek, Gordon Wittenberg, John Zammito.  Absent: André Droxler, Caroline Levander, Seiichi Matsuda, Gordon Mutchler, Jennifer West.

The agenda consisted of: (1) Approval of Minutes, (2) Report from Speaker on disposition of sexual harassment policy, (3) UGCC motion before faculty as major business for 28 February, (4) Final report from Policy Committee on 201.97, for consideration by faculty on 13 March and 3 April, (5) New business: revision of 208-97 regarding expectation that assistant professors on research leave will be expected to return, (6) Continuing business.

(1) Approval of Minutes: The minutes were accepted with one revision.

(2) Report from Speaker on disposition of sexual harassment policy: A final copy of the policy was sent to Dr. Gillis for him to adopt.

(3) UGCC motion before faculty as major business for 28 February: Zammito will distribute (electronically) to the general faculty a statement from UGCC regarding their conclusions and recommendations. The faculty will also receive (electronically) a copy of the 14 April 1999 enabling legislation.

(4) Final report from Policy Committee on 201.97, for consideration by faculty on13 March and 3 April: It was moved that the Faculty Council forward the revised policy to the faculty and that "8c" be voted on as a separate item. The motion was approved, unanimously.

(5) New business: revision of 208-97 regarding expectation that assistant professors on research leave will be expected to return: The clarification of policy is still being drafted in the Provost's office.

(6) Continuing business: (A) The Committee on Committees will finish its recommendation, shortly. (B) The Elections Committee is preparing for spring elections. Baker urged all Faculty Council members to encourage colleagues to run for office.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:10 p.m. The next Faculty Council Business Meeting will be at 12 Noon, Friday, 16 March, George S. Cohen Dining Room, Cohen House.
