He has held Fulbright, Guggenheim, and NEH fellowships and serves as editor of SEL Studies in English Literature 1500–1900. He has been a fellow at the National Humanities Center and at the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. He currently is president of the Society for the History of Authorship, Reading, and Publishing and is a Phi Beta Kappa Couper Scholar. Professor Patten teaches courses in 19th-century British literature and art, the European novel, and the history of the book. |
