Professor Derrick is the author of Monumental Anxieties: Feminine Influence and Homoerotic Anxiety in Nineteenth-Century U.S. Literature and has published articles on James, Hawthorne, and Upton Sinclair. His current work involves a project concerning Edith Wharton and race and a larger project on the general subject of waste and the aesthetic in U.S. culture. He teaches courses in 19th- and early-20th-century U.S. literature
