Fall 2008
ENGL 200 (all sections) Seminar in Literature & Literary Analysis Instructors: Campana, Joseph - TTH 9:25-10:50 Joseph, Betty - TTH 10:50-12:05 Waligora-Davis - TTH 2:30-3:50 English 200 serves as an introduction to the English major at Rice, but it is also open to motivated non-majors interested in a general but rigorous literature course. Through examining a range of literary genres across a range of historical periods (the course will cover some poetry, some fiction, and some drama and film), we will hone the skills of close reading and critical writing that are necessary for college-level work in literary studies. Our aim will be to analyze the formal principles of literary productions as well as the social, historical, and cultural contexts within which imaginative works are produced and interpreted. |
