RESEARCH INITIATIVES

EESI fosters partnerships between academia, business, governments, NGOs and community groups to help meet society's needs for sustainable energy, environmental protection, economic development, and public health and safety. The Institute includes faculty and students in the Schools of Social Sciences, Engineering, Natural Sciences, Humanities, Architecture, and Management that collaborate on Institute initiatives identified by the following principles:

*
ESSI initiatives place a high premium on regional issues of global importance.
*
Solutions take into account both the power of education to change social perspectives and the immediate need for scientific and technological innovation.

* EESI coordinates activities closely with the James Baker III Institute for Public Policy to create a forum for promoting, assessing, and communicating scientific inquiry, thereby laying the foundation for sound decision making in the public and private sectors.
*
EESI initiatives are forward-looking as well as responsive, with the goal of establishing a culture of intellectual vigilance in examining the environmental implications of emerging technologies.
