Mission

President's Welcome

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the website for the Rice University Young Democrats!

As members of the Democratic Party, we believe that government exists as a noble mechanism to work towards the goals that we, as a society, have established.

The year 2005 brings a heated mayoral race to the city of Houston, and 2006 will see races in Texas for Governor, U.S. Senate, and a multitude of other races. We are fortunate in that strong candidates are standing for election those offices, and we have the opportunity and great privilege to work with them as volunteers on their campaigns.

The road to victory will not be easy, and it is by no means guaranteed. But with your help and hard work, we can retake progressive majorities from Washington to Austin to City Hall in downtown Houston.

Freshmen Wanted:

Welcome to Rice! The Young Dems are one of Rice's most exciting and active student orgs. It's easy to get involved and play an important role. You can plan events, be active in campaigns, energize our membership and get others involved. Join us for speakers, debates, activism, fun events, study breaks and trips.

College Captain Positions Open:

New exec. board positions are being created this year. Each college will have a "Captain," a point person in each college for voter registration, publicity, GOTV, and being a resource in each college. College Captains will find out what we can do better as an organization. If you're interested e-mail us.
