September 9, 1998
Dear Colleagues,
As you know, the faculty will vote on the new curriculum proposal
at the faculty meeting on Wednesday, September 9, to be held at 4:00
p.m. in Sewall Hall 301. It is extremely important that as many
faculty as possible be present for this vote, as it will affect the
undergraduate program for years to come-whatever the result.
If you are uncertain about the details of the proposal, we urge
you to consult our website at http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~currrev/
for a full description of the plan. Even those who have read the
proposal previously are urged to look at several new or revised items
that accompany this memo.
1) A summary of the process by which the proposal has come into
being and observations about main components.
2) A brief version of the major proposal and the proposal for a
language requirement, which will be voted on separately.
3) A revised description of the "Ways of Knowing" categories.
4) A compilation of answers to Frequently Asked Questions about
the proposal.
Again, the ad hoc Curriculum Review Committee urges you to give
this matter your continued serious thought and to be present at the
meeting.
Sincerely,
Bill Martin, for the committee
