CSters: Rice Society for Women in Computer Science
- The name of this organization is: CSters
- The purpose and objectives of this organization is as follows:
- Provide a support network for women in Computer Science
- Encourage more women to take up Computer Science as a major
- Provide information and resources about graduate schools and future careers
- Expand to encourage high-school girls to explore the field of Computer Science
- Members of this organization is as follows:
- Regular members: All students at Rice are eligible
- Honorary members: All other persons interested in joining the
club(i.e. faculty members, alumni, students at other universities
etc.) are eligible
- At least one-half of the members must be members of the Rice
undergraduate community. The principal officers of the organization
must be currently registered students at Rice University.
- New members are incorporated by the submission of an application.
(This will ask for general information and provide a means of having
up to date contact information on all members and provide a means of
keeping count of the actual number of members in the organization.
- All decisions will be voted on by the regular members. In order to
make a decision, it must be announced on the listserve at least 24
hours prior to the meeting. Decisions will be passed by 51% of the
members voting in favor of the decision.
- The executive committee will consist of the following:
- Two Co-presidents who shall oversee all the meetings and activities,
and who shall make sure that at all times the organization is abiding
by the rules and regulations set forth by the Student Association of
Rice University. In the case that a representative is needed, either
president will represent the organization on its behalf except in the
case where another member has been assigned by vote according to the
measure described in article 5.
- The Treasurer who shall maintain a correct balance of the
organization's funds, who shall keep track of the checkbook of the
organization and who shall regularly make available a written
breakdown of the income and expenses of the organization.
- The Secretary who shall be responsible for keeping minutes of the
meetings and reserving rooms for the meetings and other events. They
shall also be responsible for advertising and drafting up meeting notices.
- The presence of at least 2 members of the executive committee is
mandatory for all regular meetings.
- Members of the executive committee shall be selected by general
vote from the pool of candidates every year according to the measures
described in article 5.
- When necessary, special tasks can be assigned to members by vote
according to the measures described in article 5.
- All money spent shall be voted on by the regular members. The
authority to sign checks shall be given to the members of the
executive committee. Two signatures are required for each check.
- The selection of the faculty sponsor for the organization must be
voted on according to the measures described in article 5.
- Amendments to the organization's constitution can only be made by
a vote according to the measures described in article 5.
