Courses of Special Interest for Fall 2005

  • ARCH 313: SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE - This course will explore sustainable design from initial sustainable facility concepts and team organizations, to enlisting community support and process assessment. The course will develop into details about sustainable design, lessons learned, processes and outcomes.

  • BIOS 113/ESCI 113/ENST 113: ENVIRONMENTAL CRISIS SEMINAR: WATER - Water--one of the most basic and important components of the environment. But how is the water cycle changing and what are the current issues? In this semester's course we will discuss the water from an interdisciplinary perspective, from reservoirs and flow, through life and uses, to pollution and rights.

  • CEVE 315: SUSTAINABLE TECHNOLOGIES FOR DEVELOPING COUNTRIES - This course focuses on the appropriate use of sustainable technology in developing countries. Topics of focus include water supply and treatment, energy and electrical systems, building design and construction and sustainable agriculture.

  • ESCI 110: ENERGY, THE ENVIRONMENT, AND SOCIETY - Undergraduate seminar on current issues in energy used by industrial society, energy resources and their impact on the environment.

  • ESCI 203: INTRODUCTION TO BIOGEOCHEMISTRY - The interaction between (micro) organisms, minerals, rocks, and aqueous solutions is an important new field of research that requires an interdisciplinary approach between (micro) biology, organic chemistry, and geochemistry. The course provides an introduction and insight into this exciting new field and puts an emphasis on quantitative strategies.
