GUIDELINES
FOR SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS FOR CSDL 2002
The following
guidelines are to be used for submissions to the general
and poster sessions.
SUBMISSION
ADDRESS
Abstracts are to be sent via email to: csdl@rice.edu
The abstract should be sent as a PDF file attached to the email
message, in the format specified below. If you cannot submit a PDF
file, please send the abstract in an attached Microsoft Word file.
ABSTRACT
SIZE
The abstract should be about 500 words, inclusive of references.
When
printed out, the title and body should fit on a single page of 10-
or
12-point type, with ca. 1 inch or 2 cm. margins. Include a few
relevant references. If the abstract is too long, it will be
truncated when sent to reviewers.
FORMAT
The BODY of the email must contain the following 6 lines:
Author name(s)
The title of the paper
Email address of submitter (the contact author)
Topic area(s) (max. 2)
Session type proposed (general or poster))
(Equipment requests, if applicable)
The PDF ATTACHMENT must contain ONLY the following:
The title
of the paper (must be exactly the same as in the email)
Body of the abstract
The references
TOPIC AREA
The topic area is intended to help the organizers sort the papers
for
reviewing. Topic areas might include such general keywords as syntax,
phonology, discourse, lexical semantics, neurolinguistics, language
change, 1st/2nd lg. acquisition, sociolinguistics, computational
modelling etc. (There is no strict pre-set list, but please provide
no more than two topic areas.)
SESSION TYPE
Indicate whether you wish to have your paper considered for the
general session or the poster session.
EQUIPMENT REQUESTS
If you need any audiovisual equipment such as an overhead projector,
please specify your request. We will do our best to accommodate
other
specified requests for technical equipment in papers selected for
presentation (communicating with authors at a later date).
REVIEWING CRITERIA
Reviewers will judge the abstracts by the following criteria.
- Topic appropriate/of
interest for CSDL
- "New
Knowledge" contributed by the work
- Data: Data
sources should be specified and examples given to illustrate points
made
- Persuasiveness
of argumentation
- Statement
of results/conclusions
- Overall
quality of the work as seen from abstract
OTHER CONSTRAINTS
No more than two submissions (individual or joint) from any given
individual
are allowed.
ABSTRACT
DEADLINE
Deadline for submission of abstracts to the general
and poster sessions is May 10, 2002.
