Dr. Michael Byrne

The 2000 election revealed many issues in how our nation executes its
fundamental democratic process, voting. One of the key steps in the
voting process is the communication of the voter's intent to the ballot
itself. As anyone who has ever forgotten an attachment to an email
message knows, sometimes the user interface leads to difficulty in
getting the in-the-head intent recorded correctly. We are conducting
research on how usable current voting systems are, and how to make more
usable voting systems in the future.
