Environmental Responses of Plants
Although plants appear passive in their environments,
they are exquisitely sensitive to many stimuli, including
light, temperature, and even touch. Dr. Braam's laboratory
uses molecular, genetic, and biochemical techniques to gain
insight into how plants perceive diverse environmental stimuli
and how plant growth and development are altered in ways
that enable plants to adapt. Undergraduate students participate
in experiments designed to monitor gene expression and manipulate
gene function in transgenic plants. For more information,
