Dr. Janet Braam

Environmental Responses of Plants

Although plants appear passive in their environments, they are exquisitely sensitive to many stimuli, including light, temperature, and even touch. Dr. Braam's laboratory uses molecular, genetic, and biochemical techniques to gain insight into how plants perceive diverse environmental stimuli and how plant growth and development are altered in ways that enable plants to adapt. Undergraduate students participate in experiments designed to monitor gene expression and manipulate gene function in transgenic plants. For more information, see http://www.bioc.rice.edu/~braam/
