Laboratory Courtesy

There are a number of policies that make the lab a more pleasant place for everyone:

  1. Don't do anything to contaminate the common supply of chemicals, such as inserting objects into the dispensing bottles. If you have a problem with dispensing, let your lab instructor solve it.
  2. Don't take dispensing bottles of chemicals away to your desk. Other people need to use them, too.
  3. If you accidentally spill a chemical, notify your section’s instructor so that he or she can give you instructions for safe clean-up of the spill. It is especially important to keep balances and the area surrounding them clean.
  4. No audio or video equipment of any type may be used in the lab.
Responsibility for Equipment

I understand that I and my laboratory partner are responsible for all materials in my assigned lab drawer and the lock until I have been checked out by my teaching assistant and a Storeroom employee. Even if I drop the course during the semester, I realize that I am still responsible for the equipment in the drawer until I check out with authorized storeroom personnel. I understand that there is a $20 service fee for failing to check out, in addition to the charges for any items found broken or missing.
