Extrafloral Nectar- Collecting Ants of the
Sonoran Desert

Hi, my name is Barry Sullender and I am currently a Huxley Instructor at Rice University. I've put together this website to share with others some of the experiences I've had with ants over the last few years. Featured in text and photographs is a small observational field study I did in Tucson, Arizona while I was a postdoc at the University of Arizona. Included also are pages on other interesting aspects of ant biology.

You will find the following at this website:

I. A Natural History of Extrafloral Nectar-Collecting Ants at a Sonoran Desert Site

A. Introduction

B. The study site

C. Cactus extrafloral nectaries (print version) **

D. Extrafloral nectar-collecting ant species

E. Spider predation

II. Other Interesting Aspects of Ant Biology

A. Blind snake predation

B. A molecular phylogeny for the Formicidae

III. Acknowledgements

**To shorten download times some pages are split into multiple pages. In these cases I also provide the page in its entirety for printing (print version). The print version not only takes significantly longer to download but also lacks active links within the text.
