Tickets for The Winter's Tale are $4.00 for Rice University students and $6.00 for members of the general public. You may reserve tickets by:

• Calling the Rice Spring Theatre Festival Box Office at 527-4040,
• Emailing Baker Box Office Manager Ali Raja.

We cannot accept credit-card orders, but will hold your tickets for pickup or until fifteen minutes before curtain time. Checks may be made out to "Baker College."

Place

All performances are at Baker College at Rice University, here in Houston, Texas.

Directions are available, both to the Rice campus and to Baker College itself.

Purpose

In 1970, Baker College freshmen Charles Becker and Ed Dickinson approached Rice Professor of English Dr. Wes Morris with the idea of mounting a production of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew. "I was reluctant," remembers Dr. Morris, "but they started organizing and before we knew it, we had a play." Today, over a quarter century later, Baker College is proud to continue the sterling tradition of student-produced Shakespearean drama at Rice University.

• Or you could download the formatted version (Microsoft Word) that we used to print out the cast copies.

• Karin Kross, one of our Assistant Directors, is maintaining an ongoing (and interesting!) production diary.

• If you're in the mood for some critical analysis, you could try:
  • These good "study questions" -- sometimes leading, and in a direction I don't much care for, but often thought-provoking.
  • "Competing Discourses in The Winter's Tale" by David Laird and Maurice Hunt.
  • Review of a London production with a stunning idea for the reappearance of Mamillius' costume: we thought about stealing it, but didn't.
  • Interesting take on a Winter's Tale program: again, somewhat different from our aim, but worth a look.

Production

• The rehearsal schedule (Microsoft Word format) is now online, in case you need a copy. (N.B. most Rice campus Macs don't have enough memory to open a browser and MWord both at once -- save it and read it after quitting the browser).
• For those of you reading from Sun workstations and such, we also have the rehearsal schedule in HTML list format.
