28 February-8 March, 1997

A week of much work. Lights were hung on Saturday, and the set was built and painted through Wednesday. Thursday was spent helping Players build the set for "Coyote Ugly". Friday was more lights stuff. Costumes were worked on throughout.

All in all, a very productive week. Getting the set completed a week before opening has got to be some kind of Shake record. :-)

Funny story of the week:

I think I have a nominee for Surreal Conversation of the Day:

Earlier today I was interviewing at Trilogy (in Austin), and was in a
Waiting Room with another of that day's candidates, a guy from the
University of Virginia...

Me: "... I was going to work on studying C++ for the interview, but I
ended up building a set instead."
Him: "Really? For what show?"
"_The Winter's Tale._"
[blink blink] "Ha! We're doin' that too! I'm *in* that!"
"Really? Who are you playing?"
"Polixenes. You?"
"Leontes. Wanna run lines?"
"'Nine changes of the wat'ry star hath been the shepherd's note....'"

Hmm. Life is its own farcical satire.

The coincidence didn't end here, as a e-mail from Peter from 3/20 pointed out:

ps the saga of the uva production of the winter's tale continues. A
fellow Rice-ling who was also interviewing at Trilogy that fateful day
(Daniel Whiteson) apparently ran into the _director_ of the uva
Winter's Tale while interviewing for grad school at the University of
Chicago....	:)
